Industry-leading protection for your hire
- High coverage limits: Protect your hire up to the full value of the equipment, with no single item limit.
- Affordable protection: RPP costs 15% of your hire fee for non-passenger vehicle rentals, and 25% for passenger vehicle rentals.
- Minimal excess: Maximum excess of $500 + GST per item.
- Comprehensive coverage: Covers loss or damage anywhere in Australia, with protection beginning once the customer receives the equipment.
- Fewer restrictions: RPP is more inclusive than standard contractors’ policies, designed for real-world site conditions.
- Wide range of equipment: From shoring equipment, excavators, dumpers, generators, and pumps.
How it works
When you request a hire, choose RPP as an add-on at the time of booking.
Pay the RPP fee: 15% of your hire fee for non-passenger vehicle rentals, or 25% for passenger vehicle rentals (plus GST).
If during the hire period the equipment is accidentally damaged or stolen:
- You report the event (file police report if required), submit evidence within 5 business days.
- You pay the RPP excess, calculated as the lesser of 10% of the repair costs or $500 + GST. United Rentals handles the rest.
- Your excess stays capped, even if replacement or repair costs are much higher.
Rental Protection Plan for Passenger Vehicles
Passenger-vehicle hire is covered by a separate version of RPP that works a little differently to our general equipment plan. For passenger vehicles, RPP costs 25% of your hire fee (plus GST) and protects you against accidental damage to, and theft of, United Rentals passenger vehicles, with your excess capped at $500 + GST. It does not cover tyre or tube damage, or damage resulting from intentional abuse.
Frequently Asked Questions
RPP is an optional damage‑waiver program you can add when you hire equipment from United Rentals Australia. Instead of being fully liable for loss, theft, or damage to the hired equipment, you pay a small fee and your maximum financial responsibility is limited to a defined excess. RPP only covers United Rentals equipment and does not cover any other liabilities, such as damages caused to third parties or their property. It is not insurance, but a contractual waiver of certain liabilities under the hire agreement.
The RPP fee is calculated as a percentage of the hire charges.
If damage or theft occurs, your liability under RPP will be limited to a capped excess — calculated as the lesser of 10% of the repair costs or $500 + GST per item.
- Loss, theft or accidental damage to hired equipment during the hire period (including while in transit) subject to terms.
- Replacement or repair costs up to defined limits under the waiver.
RPP only waives or limits liability for loss, theft, or damage to the hired United Rentals equipment itself. It does not cover third-party liability, personal injury, or damage to other property.
RPP does not apply to:
- Damage to tyres or tubes caused by punctures, blowouts, cuts, bursts, or normal wear and tear.
- Loss or damage resulting from intentional misuse, negligence, abuse, or failure to comply with hire-agreement terms.
- Damage to items or accessories for which the RPP fee was not paid or is inapplicable.
RPP must be accepted at the time you enter into the Rental and Service Agreement — it cannot be added retro‑actively.
If you want to make a claim under RPP:
- Notify United Rentals Australia immediately (or as soon as practicable) about the loss, damage or theft.
- Provide any required documentation (for example, if theft: a police report or crime number, where relevant).
- Submit full details of the incident and cooperate with any investigation or inspection if required.
Yes. For example: with some vehicle hires, RPP may limit liability differently (certain thresholds or conditions may apply).
No. RPP only waives or limits liability for loss, theft or damage to the hired equipment itself. It does not cover third‑party liability, personal injury, property damage outside the hired item, or any other form of insurance that may be required under law or contract.
If your existing insurance policy covers the full replacement value of hired equipment for the duration of the hire and meets the insurance obligations per rental agreement, you may decline RPP. But you must provide proof of that policy if requested.
